When you think of haunted places in Montana, what comes to mind? Perhaps you think of the spirits at the Grand Union Hotel in Fort Benton, or even the rumored paranormal activity at Bannack State Park. But some of the Treasure State’s most haunted spots stay out of the spotlight, including an Elks Lodge in Miles City with quite a history.

Miles City was founded in 1877, and it remains one of Eastern Montana’s liveliest little cities.

But this building wasn’t always used as an Elks Lodge.

Elks Lodge 537 / Google During the Prohibition era, this building served as quite the speakeasy. There’s even a rumor that Bonnie and Clyde played cards here once.

We aren’t sure if anything happened during the Prohibition era that would lead to paranormal activity… but we do know that the Elks Lodge was the site of a suicide in 1963.

The most common ghost sighting is that of a female spirit wearing a long dress.

People often hear things they can’t explain while wandering these quiet halls.
