Its history also includes several name changes. The area’s first official moniker was Black’s Ravine, which references Samuel Black, the first owner of the land.

Eventually, the name was changed to Paradise Valley and then, finally, to Devil’s Punchbowl. Though the origin of the name is unknown, some believe it’s inspired by the mascot of the nearby University of Wisconsin–Stout.

Presently owned by the West Wisconsin Land Trust, Devil’s Punchbowl is open to the public year-round.
