Found in Cary, just outside of Raleigh, Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve is a little known gem in the Tar Heel State.

At only 140 acres in size, this small yet beautiful preserve was created solely to preserve an old stand of Eastern Hemlock trees on this property.

As the name implies, Eastern Hemlocks are native to the Eastern part of the country, but they’re rare in most places in North Carolina

That little green dot is Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve. In 1924, an invasive bug was introduced into the eco system in the U.S. and it destroyed much of the population of this tree species and the threat is still very real.
