When people think of a perfect fairy-tale, they probably don’t usually think of somewhere like Delaware. Or do they? Delaware is home to many breathtaking landscapes and places to unwind, but we think this one might just be perfect enough to be the setting for your favorite mermaid tales.

Delaware Seashore State Park officially became a park in 1965, and its name was changed from Indiana River State Park to what it is today the following year.

Eric B. Walker/Flickr The park boasts a healthy six miles of shoreline; it runs along the Atlantic ocean, Indian River Bay (hence the original name), and Rehoboth bay.

All it takes is a quick look at photographs of this place to understand exactly why we feel it’s fairy tale perfect.

I r/Flickr The beaches are made of soft, white and cream-colored sand. If surfing is your passion, there’s a surf beach north of the Indian River inlet. There are also designated areas for swimming and getting some sun.

Delaware Seashore State Park is also just one of a small cluster of state parks in the same area.

B & B/Flickr There are six additional state parks within 30 miles of this one, and they’re all definitely worth a visit as well.

There’s certainly no shortage of things to do here; as mentioned before, swimming, sunbathing, and surfing are all very popular options.

Families and individuals are encouraged to picnic year-round, and during the summer, there are sandcastle contests and several nature programs to enjoy.

Spend your day (or weekend!) walking the shores, seeing the beautiful sights and, of course, maybe a little mermaid spotting.

Alyson Hurt/Flickr The atmosphere surrounding this Delaware paradise is certainly something you might consider “fairy-tale perfect” when you think of it in the future. It may not be right this moment- but give it time, and a visit.

Watch the sun set and admire the beautiful, vibrant colors as they fade to blue and then to the depth of night.

If you’d like more information about this so-beautiful-it’s-mystical spot in the lovely state of Delaware, check out the Delaware State Parks website! There are lots of beautiful photos and highly-valuable information to help you plan your visit.
