Does it get any more fascinating or fairytale-like than the area where a famed Spanish explorer searched for a legendary city of gold?
Well, that’s exactly what Coronado Heights is. Kind of. You see, ever since a Spanish coin was found in Lindsborg, Kansas in 1881, it’s been theorized that the area of Lindsborg is where Francisco Vasquez de Coronado arrived in the 1540s while hunting for the rumored “Seven Cities of Gold.” Did these cities actually exist? Hard to say. Francisco Vasquez de Coronado certainly longed to find these mythic American cities and enrich himself but declared he found nothing. Of course, back then, there wasn’t Coronado Heights.
Despite looking like a small, ancient castle, Coronado Heights was actually built in the 1930s. Still, this charming little castle is a fun place to visit and just screams “fairytale.”
If Francisco Vasquez de Coronado had been able to see this little castle in the distance, perhaps he wouldn’t have given up his search for the Seven Cities of Gold.

You can explore inside the stone structure, too. There’s not much there, but it kind of looks like a room in a princess’ castle, right?

I mean, can’t you picture Rapunzel gazing out this window in hopes of spotting her prince?
