Even if you didn’t know the legend of the infamous Virginia Bunny Man, you’d likely feel something sinister upon approaching the Colchester Bridge near the town of Clifton. There’s an undeniable haunting energy that radiates from this rather unassuming overpass in the road. Is the bridge itself infused with paranormal activity? Or is it because of what happened there in the ‘70s that lends a disturbing element to the road? You may just have to decide for yourself. The Bunny Man Bridge is a fairly nondescript overpass that’s located in Northern Virginia. As you’ll see in the Google Map below, it’s just outside the town of Clifton.

To be clear, the story of the Bunny Man is largely an urban legend. However, that hasn’t stopped countless Virginia residents from avoiding the overpass altogether; there’s just something undeniably haunting about the history and folklore of this bridge.

The first incident of a Bunny Man was reported on the evening of October 17th, 1970 and the second occurred just 10 days later, both in Burke County. In both events, a man dressed in something resembling a bunny costume accused passers-by of trespassing and threatened to kill them.

There’s no clear reason why the bridge has become so synonymous with the Bunny Man, other than the fact that many believe to have experienced a variation of the two events while investigating the bridge.

The Colchester Overpass was built in 1906 near a railroad station that used to service the Orange and Alexandria Railway.

Today, the bridge attracts paranormal enthusiasts from all over. It’s especially popular during Halloween, although tends to be highly monitored by the local police during that time.
