Bube’s Brewery has been a fixture in Mount Joy for longer than anyone can remember. Throughout the second half of the 19th century, breweries became increasingly popular in America. In 1876, a German immigrant named Alois Bube purchased the brewery he had been working at in Mount Joy, and Bube’s Brewery was born. It has stood ever since, entertaining and enticing its visitors. Today, Bube’s Brewery in Pennsylvania is chock full of not only unique brewed beer and delicious food, but fascinating history and a fun, spooky atmosphere.
Stephen Oravec Bube’s Brewery is the only “lager era” brewery in the country that is in almost completely intact condition from before the Prohibition. It closed in 1920 and though it could not function as a brewery during the Prohibition, Alois Bube’s family (he died in 1908) lived on the grounds until the late 1960s.

Bube’s also invites guests to dine in one of four restaurants.The Biergarten (pictured above) is an outdoor drinking garden where you can enjoy lunch or dinner with one of Bube’s brews. It’s a great spot, but if it’s a little too chilly, then move indoors. Here you have Alois Restaurant (named after the original owner), located in the Victorian-style hotel that Alois Bube built for guests. It displays the original wood bar and hand-stenciled walls. One of Bube’s Brewery’s most popular traditions are the murder mystery dinners that take place here.

Less casual than its other restaurants, the Catacombs offers fine dining 43 feet below street level, in one of the breweries’ old cellars. Chances are you won’t forget your costumed waiter or waitress or the stone-lined walls of this unique space.
