For nature lovers, state parks are the perfect place to spend the day or even a weekend. Luckily, Iowa is home to over 80 state parks, each one more beautiful than the next. With so many state parks, it can be tricky to narrow down which ones are worth a visit (all of them), but there’s one underrated state park that’s just overflowing with natural beauty, and it’s worth a road trip from any corner of the state.

Black Hawk State Park may not be the biggest state park in Iowa, but it sure is one of the prettiest.

The park’s main claim to fame is the lake the park is nestled around.

The 957-acre lake is a popular summertime attraction for those looking to cool off in those hot summer days.

For the more adventurous, you can always take on the 33-mile Sauk Rail Trail.
