Summertime in Maine means warm weather, plenty of sunshine, and lots of opportunities to get outside. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for new and fun places to visit. Luckily, Maine is home to about 48 state parks and historic sites. That means there’s always something new to see and explore. If you’re looking for a fun state park that’s perfect for summertime, this is it!

You’ll find Birch Point Beach State Park hiding out in Owls Head.

The 62-acre park sits right on Penobscot Bay which means just about anywhere you look you’ll find glorious views that are oh-so Maine.

The park offers the kind of peace you just can’t find in some of the larger, more popular towns further south. And while visiting Birch Point Beach might require a drive for some, we can promise you it’s worth the journey.

One of the most stunning features of the park is the crescent shaped beach offering views of the bay.

This is a great beach for kids or those looking for a simple day out. The waves are small, lapping the shore quietly.

And if you’re looking for a bit of activity, you’ll find two trails at either end of the beach.

Each trail is about a tenth of a mile, which means they won’t take away too much time at the beach.

While some state parks in Maine offer enough activity to keep you busy for days, we love that Birch Point Beach State Park is simple. Beautiful views, two short trails and all the midcoast views you could want!

Birch Point Beach State Park is typically open from 9 a.m. to sunset, Memorial Day to Labor Day. You’ll still be able to access the beach during the off-season by parking near the gate without blocking it. The fee of $3 for Maine residents and $4 for non-residents can only be paid with cash or check.
