The Cardinal Greenway is considered a rail-trail, meaning that it once was an actual train route.

Cardinal Greenways/Facebook The Wysor Street Depot, in Muncie, Indiana opened in 1901 by the Cincinnati, Richmond, and Muncie railroad line. But in 1949, passenger service discontinued and freight took precedence for travel. But then in 1985, the Cardinal was rerouted and the Wysor Depot was entirely abandoned.

In 1998, the Cardinal Greenway opened to the public for recreational use.

Today, the trail is 62 miles long and passes through multiple towns in Indiana.
