1969 - Zoo made from scratch!

1971 - American and Asian Farms

Sedgwick County Zoo Facebook Can you imagine the zoo only having these as the exhibits? Well, that was true! Farm animals were the first brought into the zoo before it opened, but it would soon grow quite quickly.

Sedgwick County Zoo Facebook I’m sure it helped to know that they didn’t charge for the zoo until at least 1973. For most Kansans, I don’t think farm animals would be too interesting to see anyways!

Sedgwick County Zoo Facebook Today, the zoo is ever-evolving and has a good mix of both new and old features as well as a huge selection of animals. In 2021, the zoo will have run for 50 years!

2016 - Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley

Sedgwick County Zoo Facebook Quite literally, too! They have been given quite the size expansion in their new habitat. That means new toys and more room for the rest of the animals at the African Veldt.
