Texas has no shortage of bizarre roadside attractions, but the Beer Can House in Houston just might be among the strangest. This weirdly wonderful piece of artwork is adorned with an estimated 50,000 beer cans – even on the fence and backyard shed! Let’s take a look, shall we?

Nestled in the Rice Military neighborhood of Houston, the Beer Can House is among the quirkiest structures you’ll ever see. It’s the brainchild of John Milkovisch, a retired upholsterer for the Southern Pacific Railroad who transformed his home into an ode to beer almost 60 years ago.

When Milkovisch started his project, it was more so for practical reasons. Growing tired of cutting the grass, he decided to lay down cement over the entire front and back yards. That endeavor soon led him to add metal siding to the house in the form of beer cans. An estimated 50,000 cans adorn every inch of the home, not including the additional bottles, bottle caps, and other paraphernalia.

Today, the Beer Can House is operated by The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. Founded in 1980, this nonprofit strives to preserve works of art and encourage the expression of creativity.

The craziest thing about the Beer Can House is how normal it looks on the inside! All you’ll see are dated appliances with an unmistakable retro charm – no evidence of the metal menagerie on the other side of the walls.

From the curb…

…to the fence, all aspects of the house owe themselves to beer cans in some way, shape, or form.

Even the backyard shed is covered in beer cans from floor to ceiling! It’s a truly incredible sight to behold.
