We’re fairly certain 2020 has lasted an eternity (March alone was at least eight years long) but we’ve finally reached the end of this weird year. It’s not too late to end 2020 with a positive memory though! You can squeeze in one more outdoor adventure by staying at one of these gorgeous spots in nature. At the time of this writing this article, all of these locations had availability for December however we’re sure that won’t last long! Be sure to book soon or use this article as an inspiration for your next overnight stay. Let’s send our farewells to 2020 as we comb through these cozy Arkansas retreats:
- Cabin
Flickr/Buffalo Outdoor Center The most classic winter retreat in Arkansas would undoubtedly be a cabin stay. Some of our favorites are part of the Buffalo Outdoor Center. They offer a variety of cabins and lodges for any family size. Although it’s questionable whether or not we’ll have a white Christmas, you be guaranteed warm snuggles and stunning views.
- Campground
Google/Mark Alexander Rugged nature lovers will treasure this one-of-a-kind campground! Most folks know about the hiking and climbing at Sam’s Throne but the camping is rather underrated. The towering throne has a primitive campground at the base open to anyone willing to pitch a tent. It’s a first-come, first-serve site with priceless mountaintop views only a short hike away.
- Yurt
Facebook/Arkansas State Tourism Spend the night in a glamorous (and heated) retreat - a yurt! These spacious structures offer the perfect glamping experience for anyone that requires more warmth than a standard pitched tent. Arkansas has a surprising selection of yurts everywhere from Chester to Lake Charles! This particular one is part of the Aux Arc Wilderness Cabins in Marshall. You can read more about the area right here.
- Cottage
Facebook/Stonehill Cottages LLC A cozy cottage surrounded by a beautifully forested valley is a Christmas dream! Snow or not, Arkansas is still going to be chilly for winter so why not invest in a retreat with bubbly hot tubs and fireplaces? Head south for the winter to the Stonehill Cottage in Mena, we’ve written about them here.
- Treehouse
Facebook/Treehouse Cottages Retreat to the trees this season in an authentic treehouse! Arkansas has a surprising variety of treehouse getaways but the Original Treehouse Cottages have been around since 1991. These are hidden within a privately-owned forest outside of Eureka Springs. You can learn more about them right here.
- Lodge
Facebook/State Parks of Arkansas Appreciate the beauty of Mount Magazine with a warm stay in the clouds. The Lodge offers breathtaking views from atop the highest mountain in Arkansas. Pick from one of the 60 rooms here and tuck into a warm meal at the lodge’s Skycrest Restaurant. Chilly hiking isn’t required when you’re staying by the giant fireplace and looking out from the wall of windows. Learn more about the whole area here.
