New Mexico offers no shortage of memorable day trip destinations. One of the most fascinating is Acoma Pueblo, approximately 60 miles outside of Albuquerque. This beautiful and historic landmark is located atop a mesa and has the unique distinction of being the oldest continuously-inhabited settlement in all of North America. For nearly 2,000 years, Indigenous People have made their home at Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico, approximately one hour’s drive from Albuquerque. To visit this settlement is to experience a living piece of history.

This beautiful mesa settlement is located atop a 367-foot sandstone bluff and is comprised of four different settlements known as Acomita, Anzac, McCartys, and Old Acoma (also referred to as Sky City).

While only a few dozen live inside Sky City permanently, there are approximately 300 adobe buildings at the mesa, all of which are without running water and electricity.

The Sky City Cultural Center and Haak’u Museum serve as a welcome center and museum for travelers and visitors. The 1.5-hour guided tour will begin there and showcase the dwellings and beautiful surrounding landscape.
