If ever there were a place in Mississippi worthy of being deemed “unexpected,” it’s McGee’s Castle. But it’s not just the fact that it’s a palatial abode that causes passersby to do a double take. Unkempt and in desperate need of repairs, the dilapidated state of the castle is also pretty astonishing and sure to garner a few looks. Read on to learn more about this regal gem and its fate.
Castles aren’t typically something you’d associate with Mississippi; however, the Magnolia State is home to a couple, including McGee’s Castle in Raymond.

But the most impressive part of all is probably the fact that it started off as a modest A-frame house!

A far cry from its humble beginnings, the completed castle was both expansive and luxurious. It boasted 18th century furnishings, an authentic replica of the Knights of the Round Table, and other unique elements and opulent features.

Eventually, it served as a B&B and special event venue, which promised to “transport visitors across continents and back in time to the days of fair maidens and knights in shining armor.”

Sadly, Dale McGee passed away in 2005 and McGee’s Castle closed shortly thereafter.

Since then, the regal abode has sat vacant and, not surprisingly, fallen into a state of disrepair.

Luckily, a local businessman has now taken ownership of the castle and is planning to restore McGee’s Castle back to its former glory.
