While Coloradans are blessed in many ways, one of our most enormous fortunes of all may be that we do not need to travel far to enjoy a world-class getaway! If you have a long weekend coming up and are itching to go somewhere new, we recommend driving to the outdoor paradise that is Fruita, Colorado:

Nestled away along Colorado’s glorious Western Slope, Fruita is Colorado’s town that strives to “Honor the Past, Envision the Future,” which they manage to do every day.

Established in 1884, Fruita’s history is as colorful as the town’s surrounding landscape, as it was initially home to the Ute people before being settled as a farming community.

As its name implies, Fruita is a stand-out fruit-producing region, making it not only a great place to farm and ranch but a great place to buy fresh produce and other foods via the town’s many shops and fruit stands!

History abounds in Fruita, thanks to not only the Ute tribes who once called the area home but the dinosaurs who roamed millions of years ago, all of which can be seen and experienced in museums like the Museum of the West, Cross Orchards Historic Site, and Dinosaur Journey Museum (pictured).
