Though there’s a ton of places to see hot air balloons, we think our wide-open skies are some of the best. If you’ve been looking for a bit of color and a reason to stare at the sky for a while, we believe this is a safe way to enjoy something so beautiful. Hot air balloon regatta, anyone?

Coming up soon in Kansas is the annual Columbus Day Hot Air Balloon Regatta. This multi-day event centers around the beautiful and peaceful hot air balloons we love so much.

Weather permitting, the regatta will be held October 9-11, 2020, perfect for nice weather and enjoying the outside air. They have a backup date and field already set up just in case.

The first night, they plan to hold a hot air balloon glow, which requires a car parking pass to enter and view. We’re glad it is held outside, because we would hate for you to miss such a beautiful way to enjoy these balloons! Glows are a stunning part of the magic, of course.

For anyone that has been watching Kansas hot air balloons for a while, you may recognize favorites. We’ve seen plenty of recognizable balloons like Retro here, who is from Topeka.

Also on the balloon viewing menu is Wind Rose, a stunning balloon that has come all the way from Indiana. We think the more is definitely the merrier.

Watching hot air balloons can be done at the event itself or just nearby. It all depends on how far you want to be from others! If anything, you could easily make it a picnic day with the family.
