In the cold or the heat, these beautiful Kansas trails are part of our landscape, and just as beautiful as the rest. Instead of looking from afar, hiking through it can often help you clear your head about all sorts of things. If you just want to enjoy the natural state of Kansas, here are a few great nature trails that are amazing in any time of year, as long as it hasn’t been rained out.

  1. Chisholm Creek Trail - Chisholm Creek Park - Wichita

Paula Michelle/AllTrails 1.7 miles of loop trail is pretty popular with local hikers and park lovers, so the trail usually has plenty of traffic. There’s a tree tunnel, water features, and many different wild residents you’ll meet along the way.

  1. Southwind Nature Trail - Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve - Strong City

Jerry Griffis/AllTrails 2.9 miles of loop out in the middle of prairie doesn’t get too busy, even when it’s popular times of the years. If you love the prairie wind in the grass, you’ll love this trail.

  1. River, Bluff, & Lost Prairie Trails - Chaplin Nature Center - Ark City

John Irving Jr/AllTrails 2.5 miles of loop trail go through a good bit of trail at a beautiful nature center. There’s plenty of wildlife around, plus a cool little cliff you’ll need to ascend or descend via stairs.

  1. Kansas River Trail - Riverfront Park - Lawrence

Shawn Edwards/AllTrails 8 miles of out-and-back trail sits out near Lawrence with a beautiful view of the Kansas river. It’s great for hiking or biking through, and the riverfront option means you’ll almost always have a view of the river.

  1. Horse Thief Trail - Kanopolis Lake State Park - Kanopolis

Jennifer Bisek/AllTrails 1.9 miles of loop is up next, this time with a cave and rocky climbing feature. Much of the rocks here is worn smooth by hands, rain, and blowing dust in the area. Though we love Kanopolis, this area is by far the prettiest.

  1. Life on the Rocks Trail - Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park - Monument

AllTrails 2.4 miles in our newest state park sounds like a great adventure! We love looking over these recently unveiled badlands.

  1. Elk River Hiking Trail - Elk City State Park - Elk City

  1. Kings Creek Loop Trail - Konza Prairie - Manhattan

Doreen Balbuena/AllTrails 4.6 miles of loop trail out by Manhattan sits at the Konza Prairie Natural Area, where you’ll find plenty of wind flowing through the grasses and even more beauty at every turn.
