There are many perks to living in New Orleans, and one of our favorites is all the endless scenic overlooks that are peppered in and around the Crescent City. Next time you’re looking for a pretty spot to sit for a spell, consider heading over to one of the gorgeous scenic overlooks in New Orleans that are perfect for an afternoon outing or a sunset view.
- Butterfly Riverview Park
Jay C./Google More commonly known as “The Fly,” this little stretch at the end of Audubon Park is a picture-perfect spot to sit back and watch the boats go by, have a picnic, or just enjoy the beautiful waterfront views.
- Crescent Park
Douglas Alexander/Google Just on the outskirts of the quarter lies Crescent Park, one of the most underrated hidden gems in New Orleans. The skyline views of the city are some of the best in the city, and there are several benches peppered along the walkway where you can sit for a spell and take in the view.
- Breakwater Park
Edward Cannon/Google Trade the river views for the lake with a trip to Breakwater Park. You can park right along the water and never even have to leave your car for this precious view.
- London Park
Jay Strickland/Google Just a little bit down the road from Breakwater Park and you’ll find London Park. Take a seat on the steps and watch the sunset over the lake one evening, you won’t regret it.
- Fontainebleau State Park
Trover/Google Hop across the causeway over to Fontainebleau State Park, one of the most enchanting state parks in Louisiana. The pier is a spectacular spot to watch the sunset, and there’s also a little stretch of beach that’s great for sinking your toes into.
- Barataria Preserve
John Coach/Google Just a little south of New Orleans lies Barataria Preserve. Located in Marrero, Barataria Preserve features over 20,000 acres of stunning marshes, bayous, swamps, and forests. There are several boardwalk trails that will lead you through the preserve, and you’ll be met with stunning scenery like the photo above.
- Bayou Segnette State Park
Mike D./Google Located in Westwego, Bayou Segnette State Park is ideal for anyone looking to get lost in nature for a bit without having to drive very far from the city. There are also some floating cabins available to rent, and who wouldn’t want to wake up to views like this?
- Algier’s Point
Andzej Trzmiel/Google Hop across the ferry over to Algiers and take in the view of the city from the other side of the Mighty Mississippi River. The levee trail is great for hikers and bikers, and there are several restaurants peppered around that are perfect for a quick bite to eat or a refreshing cold beverage.
