Looking for a pretty little spot to sit for a spell and take in the views? Louisiana sure does have some spectacular scenery, but nothing compares to sitting back and enjoying a waterfront view. Here are eight of the most sunning lakes that you’ll want to visit this year.
- Lake Martin
Shawn G/Trip Advisor Located on the outskirts of Breaux Bridge, a trip through Cajun Country isn’t complete without stopping off at this beautiful little lake. It’s one of the largest rookies for birds in Louisiana, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. You’ll have the opportunity to see plenty of other wildlife, too, including alligators and turtles.
- Lake Chicot
Alex Cadle/Google Nestled in Ville Platte, Lake Chicot is a nature lover’s dream. There’s a beautiful trail within Chicot State Park that will take you all around the lake, offering some truly spectacular views along the way.
- Lake Pontchartrain
Trover/Google If you’re in the Greater New Orleans Area, stop off at Fontainebleau State Park to watch the sunset over Lake Pontchartrain. Mesmerizing!
- Prien Lake
Romm Silwal/Google Those in the Lake Charles area may already know the beauty of Prien Lake, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of our favorite lakes. Prien Lake Park offers gorgeous views, and ample seating to sit for a spell.
- Valentine Lake
Mike Lamb/Google If you want to get away from it all, Valentine Lake is just the ticket. Head on over to the Valentine Lake Recreation Area to take in the splendor of this little hidden gem. There are several trails nearby, making it the perfect spot for an afternoon of adventure.
- Caddo Lake
Chuck Weis/Google Bordering Texas and Louisiana, this 25,400-acre lake sure is a stunner. Earl G. Williamson Park in Oil City is a great way to see the lake and spend some time outdoors.
- Lake Claiborne
Brian Cockrell/Google If you want to spend a night or two with a lakefront view, Lake Claiborne State Park is right up your alley. The 6,400-acre man-made lake is great for bass fishing, too.
- Lake D’Arbonne
