If you’ve been looking for a bit of a challenge, then these trails may be your next step towards being a hiking or mountain biking master of Kansas. Which sounds a lot cooler than it maybe is in practice.
- King’s Creek Loop Trail - Konza Prairie
Krista Kellogg/AllTrails King’s Creek Loop Trail is a gorgeous trail that spans 4.6 miles which isn’t too long, but takes a while to climb over. Rocks, footbridges, and plenty of foresty areas await you in one of the most beautiful areas of Kansas.
- East Loop - Wilson State Park
Jessica Johns/AllTrails It’s no secret that we love Wilson State Park, and all 7.2 miles of this beautiful loop around the lake is great for mountain biking as well as hiking. It’s a little tough to get over but shouldn’t be an issue for experienced hikers.
- Elk River Hiking Trail - Elk City State Park
Pat Plumer/AllTrails 14 miles of point-to-point trail over and around a rocky path makes it a little tough to navigate, but the views are too stunning to pass up. Look out over the lake and enjoy the payoff.
- Prairie, Gas House, and Davis Trail Loop - Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve
Kyle Grandy/AllTrails 8.4 miles of loop trail at this national preserve is full of stunning views. You get wildflowers, miles of open prairie, bison, and more.
- Fancy Creek Mountain Bike Trail - Fancy Creek State Park
Liz Fair/AllTrails This little known state park has a great 5.8 mile mountain bike trail that’s a good challenge for those who are sick of the plain old level trails. Get some excitement in your adventures! (Safely, of course.)
- Harvey County West Park
ashli glitner/AllTrails Though it’s only a 2 mile loop, it’s a good running or hiking trail with plenty of birds to spot along the way due to the tree cover.
- Chautauqua Hills Trails Loop - Cross Timbers State Park
Granger Meador/AllTrails Last but not least, a 7 mile loop that’s full of trees, gorgeous views, and Toronto lake.
