Hamburgers are no laughing matter. Americans love a juicy burger with cheese (and dare I say bacon?). But if you want them done right you come to Connecticut, because we made the hamburger famous.  That’s right, the first restaurant to serve hamburgers is in Connecticut, and it’s still grilling!

Please note, Harry’s Place is temporarily closed.

Lauri M/Yelp

Yen D/Yelp You can find these all over and I love it. This was basically my hang out in high school.

  1. Wayback Burgers - Orange

Stephen P/Yelp

Jae L/Yelp To be honest, you can also find these all over Connecticut. But I end up at this location during the Orange Country Fair in the summer. It’s a great place to start the day.

  1. Ted’s Restaurant - Meriden

Voravut R/Yelp

Kyle M/Yelp Please note, Ted’s Montana Grill is no longer in business. Famous for steam cooked burgers. They’ve been featured plenty, so if you haven’t tried them I don’t know what you’re waiting on!

  1. Shake Shack - Westport

Michael W/Yelp

Shake Shack/Yelp I originally tasted this burger in New York and loved it. So when they opened shop in Connecticut I did a little dance.

  1. Shady Glen - Manchester

Arthur M/Yelp

Mimi C/Yelp This diner-esque restaurant is like time traveling to the 1950s. The only thing missing is the roller skates.

  1. Plan B Burger Bar & Tavern - West Hartford

  1. Little Barn - Westport

Little Barn/Facebook

Little Barn/Facebook I always leave here feeling full. It’s a smaller space, but worth it.

  1. Harry’s Place - Colchester

Dog M/Yelp

Nicholas W/Yelp Unfortunately, this dive is seasonal so you have to wait until spring to enjoy it.

  1. Flipside Burger & Bar - Fairfield

Alexander P/Yelp

  1. Engine Room - Mystic

Engine Room/Facebook

Engine Room/Facebook I love the feel of this place! It actually used to be an engine room, so you get cool wood panel walls and large pipes.

Do you have a favorite burger joint that didn’t make the list?  Then tell me about it! I’m always ready to taste test.
