It’s that magical time of the year again. Time to find the perfect tree, warm up the hot chocolate and pull out the mittens and boots. Winter in Connecticut can be absolutely spectacular. And although we don’t have elves running around making toys, there are still a few spots in our state that can make you feel like you are at the North Pole.

Please note, Goodspeed Opera House is temporarily closed.

  1. Heublein Tower, Simsbury

Flickr/Rick Schwartz This tower that was once a private home stands 165 feet tall. It is located in Talcott Mountain State Park and is quite a breathtaking structure in the wintertime. The architecture reminds us of a time from the past and it looks like it could withstand the harsh weather at the North Pole.

  1. Mirror Lake, Branford

Flickr/slack12 When it is dusted with snow and partially frozen, Mirror Lake looks like a setting out of a storybook. This is quintessential Connecticut captured in the snow season.

  1. Festival of Lights, Hartford

Flickr/Patrick The Festival of Lights at Constitution Plaza is certainly a holiday delight to behold. You will feel like you are walking into another world as you view the enchanting display.

  1. Yale University, New Haven

  1. Nature’s Art Village, Montville

Flickr/Selbe Lynn Only in Connecticut will you find a huge dinosaur all decked out for the holidays. But perhaps maybe there is one up at the North Pole also? Nature’s Art Village becomes truly magical this time of year.

  1. Capitol Building, Hartford

Flickr/ilirjan rrumbullaku The Capitol Building in Hartford is definitely majestic and during the holidays we almost expect three kings to walk out the front doors. Standing tall against the stark contrast of winter, this is quite a sight to behold.

  1. Chapman Falls, East Haddam

Flickr/CJ Oliver The temperatures have to drop pretty low to create this icy vision at Chapman Falls. Once it freezes over, the water seems to be something out of a fantasy land.

Flickr/Patrick Franzis Around the holidays you will probably hear bells ringing and faint caroling near the Goodspeed Opera House. It is a majestic building highlighted by the reflective water that it sits near. This spot is one that Santa would be delighted to visit.

  1. Hubbard Park, Meriden

Flickr/Lisa Jacobs Hubbard Park in Meriden hosts its Festival of Silver Lights every December. Journey down a snowy path to see the Christmas display reflect off the water and turn into a mesmerizing sight.
